A lot of this " mentors " dont help ppl at all... i dont see anyone helping ppl on chat even the ones that have the full crown the big one.. YOSHI please add some weekly mentors stuff that if u dont do it u cant do it lose the crown some how.. full of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Take away the mount for a start but as it stands now mentor status needs the 1.0 treatment in its current state I do not think it can be properly salvaged

its gone off the deep end with that sadly. No kind mentor for newbies to look up to. Look around the forum and you see no one is qualified for it. Let alone have the patience for such a thing.

mentors are kinda a lost cause the only decent people who helped me was people i met in fc , etc theyve tried to salvage it but the only people who sign for mentor are the crowd of people who think they are the best

pretty much, its basically filled with folks who just wanna chat half the time.

the mentor crown has been sullied over the years to the point is actually a joke to have one.

Agreed. I've found there are 3 types of mentors.

1. The passive kind. They don't talk or interact with the groups they join. AKA mount chasers.
2. Helpful, sometimes too helpful. You will take the advice and you will like it!
3. Passive aggressive or straight up toxic. The kind that hates you because are not playing optimally in levelling roulette.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing or what. I have no idea what the Novice Network and general mentorship is like on the Japanese servers, but it's nothing but a joke on the North American and European servers.

People just don't have the general interest and patience to help random new people.

I know I certain didn't. I used to do Mentor Roulette a lot when it first came out, but I eventually got locked out of it because I didn't bother to unlock several of the later Trials in Stormblood, and honestly I don't miss it. I mostly just ran instances, keeping to myself, and occasionally getting super unlucky and beating my head against a wall in an EX with a bunch of new players until we would either disband or I'd straight up leave after a few wipes.

Perhaps the world would be a better place and all those cheesy sentiments if we cared, but the truth of the matter is the majority of us don't care about helping and teaching new players, especially when not asked directly.

Novice Network isn't too bad on Tonberry in my experience. Don't get me wrong, there's a LOT of passive mentors sitting in NN, but there's like... at least 10 regulars who are pretty good at trying to help sprouts when they ask for help. I myself try to help when I can, but I also just stay right out of it if I'm not entirely sure if the advice I'd be giving is the *right* advice.

They only want to wear their "Burgerking Crown" to look cool. That's about it.

YoshiP really needs to rework this system to something more robust.

And yet it has had the complete opposite effect. It has been meme'd to death.

Hilariously similar to <Perfect Legend> and it's derivatives. It's become such a meme because of losers who have paid for clears that it's easier, and funnier, to assume anyone who wears the title is a scrub.

As a sprout I'm able to ask a simple question and people will answer it on the Novice Network. I'm on Brynhildr. I've asked things like, "How do I auto-run?" and "How important is materia?" and got some good answers.

'r' will autorun and materia will just clog up your inventory at low levels so don't worry about it. I think those were good answers.

Depends a lot on the server, but generally speaking the Novice Networks aren't too bad. It's more a matter of actually running content with said Mentors that shows how useless the system truly is.

Pretty much. Those bad apples within the mentor community just leaves a poor tastes in people's mouths. Can't really blame mentors who actually does their job though. It's just that everyone who wears the crowns are in such terrible optics for a while now.

As a big crown myself, you CAN ask any mentors to do a duty with you. Heck, I will always try to answer questions to who ask. I can't just "guess" that you need help if you don't ask me. I also like to let sprouts die on duty so they learn things on their own. Now before you jump on the whole "omg u so toxic", ask yourself. Do every sprouts WANT to be spoiled...?

Of course after the first death, I'll ask if they want hints. If they don't then I keep it at that. If they do, I give them hints to figure things themselves. I've always been appreciated so far for doing it. I just don't feel like instantly telling everyone what to do, it kinda ruins the fun. Part of being a mentor is to see "students" fail and see if they figure things on their own, first...

But topic wise, it is true that not every mentors are good examples to follow and it's sad. They are still not the worst thing ever, though. It depends on what server you're on. By the end of endwalker where you get your crown, you ARE supposed to be capable of giving support to people if they need. It's the point of the entire system. The community is the problem.

99.9% of mentors offer the same advice

"Pls do these on party finder so we don't have to actually do mentoring."
