Never had a problem with it. It shows us a part of the reason she is the way she is in the game.

Don't play the game, if you can't handle playing as a kid for a bit. Not garbage either.

Also looking at some of your reviewed games, I can tell you don't really play games that much. Your thumbs up reviews I call into question though. You give perfect good games bad reviews but you give a basic indie cutter a good review.

Neither did I. Thought it was handled pretty good. And yes it is essential to her backstory, much better than some lazy text-box.

I liked the opening story showing the struggle she went through growing up and learning. I wish it would show it again when you start a new game, so, don't worry OP, it only shows it once. After the one time it shows it you begin the next time just before the Proving.

The tutorial where you play as 6 year old Aloy doesn't last very long, maybe around 30-40 minutes, possibly longer if you take your time. While it mainly serves to introduce you to a few game play basics such as crafting arrows, shooting machines, using the Focus (this is quite possibly the most important part of the tutorial) it also serves to explain a little of Aloy's backstory, along with some background on Rost. There's also a couple of other characters who play somewhat important roles during the tutorial and you meet them again later as adult Aloy. If you simply don't play the tutorial then not only will you not understand who they are, you won't even understand the conversations you have with them as adult Aloy.

Anyway, as others have already stated, there is no built in method to skip the tutorial. That alone should tell you that it's rather important to play through the tutorial at least once.

Starting a New Game+ automatically puts you outside Rost's cabin at the start of "The Point of the Spear". But, to unlock a NG+ you either have to complete the game on a normal playthrough so as to get a NG+ starting save OR use any NG+ starting save (fairly certain there's quite a few to be found online). If you were going to download a save game then you could also just download any save game at the start of "The Point of the Spear" to "skip" the tutorial. But the problem of never playing the tutorial remains in that you miss out on learning how to properly use the Focus and you miss out on background story and information.

Thanks.

The kid height over the shoulder view is weird and disorienting.

Ah, now that would have been better included in your OP! Yeah, I can understand that, the first time I played it took me a little while to get used to playing as child Aloy, but it doesn't take too long to get through that part of the game and start properly as adult Aloy.

It's worth pushing through at least once, not just for the story and learning how to use the Focus, but also because, as adult Aloy, you will need to return to the ruins child Aloy falls into to find and acquire a collectable item as well as other loot / areas that child Aloy could not access.

it's actually pretty okay part of the game, at least for me
