A means to turn the story off.

I know I am a day late and dollar short with this one, but I have an idea which I would would improve the quality of the game. A means to play the campaign with no story. All friendly NPC's simply don't spawn in. All cut-scenes are auto skipped. We still get the Sam one liners though. Sometimes the way to improve something is to take something out. I don't think it would be that hard to code.

Sounds like total downgrade. What's the point in playing games without a plot.

For the gameplay. Have you ever played Doom?

I have. It's one of my first games in 90's. So i played it a lot and then i played Brutal Doom so much. But at some point i decided that a lack of storytelling makes it pointless to play. Sam games, on the other hand, have a good story. Even in First and Second Encounter it's fun to check Netricsa for clues. Doomguy didn't even use one liners.

There is a mod for that. It's called the ESC key, and it already has been installed in the far left corner of your keyboard!

I agree that a mod that would remove the allied, immortal NPCs from the game in levels where you have some along with you would be nice. Seeing them soak up like 20 Kamikazes and not even getting downed just feels off for a Serious Sam game, not to mention that they kill enemies and generally just divert attention to themselves, which makes the fights undeniably easier.

As for the cutscenes, the above secret trick of using the ESC key is more than enough.

Imagine thinking you have a club here

Story is fundamental to have my dude, nothing happens without reason, nothing exists without context, this is how the world works and how our minds expect things to be, if all you have is gameplay without context then no matter how fun it is it WILL tire you out eventually and lessen your satisfaction of the experience (unless the gameplay and/or graphics are so far removed from reality that it becomes abstract, see things like tetris)

there is a reason even new doom added story to it despite the super old school and arcade gameplay, and even the classic doom had a story to it even if the presentation was rather barebones

there's no reason for the ESC key not being enough for the cutscenes
