I'm stuck at the part were you have to assend the tall tower structure with 7, I think levels.
On viewing this on youtube, the levels are clearley marked on the centre structure. I think you have to accend in a specific way, ie 2/4/7.
My problem is there are no numbers.
Any help much appreciated.

Those are the levels of the reactor you need to progress through to get to the main lab. You don't necessarily know which entrance point to go in on each level, however. It's very much intended to be a puzzle. You have to remember where each entry point takes you and make your way up out of memory. There's also a timing element to it, because you need to time it right to land on the rotating platform.

At least that's how I've done it ever since the original.

There's a room with a dead scientist on the ground. He wrote on the floor 247 in blood. That gives you the order in which to ascend. If you look on the walls of each platform you should see a large numbers stamped into each alcove.

Same problem as OP, the entrance numbers are not shown for me either (numbers like on You Tube walk through). II I do the correct 247 sequence by following memorized order I cannot enter into the middle without death from electrocution. Also I tired every other alternative entrances combo.
