Can the devs please review sexism in the game
I love the game, but struggle with the blatant sexism in it. The stereotypical views of the buyers are not reflective of modern society. As a video game historian, I felt compelled to offer some feedback.
Examples include:
1) women buyers saying a strong and independent woman doesn't have children. Many successful females have children.
2) male buyers saying a males house doesn't have toys, as though fatherhood emasculates a man. Many men enjoy fatherhood, and toys themselves, they do not have to be related to children.
3) decorations are very male orientated and/or gendered, eg. man- cave related, best father trophies etc. Women also like garages, I see no best mother trophies and few similarly gendered female things eg: sewing machine, etc. All selections can cater to both genders anyway, but at present too much is traditionally masculine.
There are many other examples, these are the ones that bother me the most.
Please do some research to make the decorations and statements more reflective of modern society, rather than of some idea of patriarchy, which can be toxic within the video game environment.
Other additions could also include food for the table, art work that matches paint colours a little better, art supplies to match the easels, pens etc for desks. There are so many other things that can really improve the game.
Thank you
Jetgirl

chin4grci4/House Doctor replied to Can the devs please review sexism in the game January 11, 2022 @ 4:29:20 am PSTThere are real people who talk/feel like this, so it really just makes the game more realistic. As a mother of 3 children I know not to take what a game says to heart..as for more female stuff, I have to agree as there isn't any women trophies or a woman cave and would be a cool add in. The food and art stuff is all available in workshop, there are thousand of items there.

Jet Girl replied to Can the devs please review sexism in the game January 11, 2022 @ 4:43:07 am PSTJust because thousands of people think like this, it doesn't make it right. Also, where is the workshop with food and art supplies in House Flipper? I can't find any of it in the store.

garyh2462 replied to Can the devs please review sexism in the game January 11, 2022 @ 5:29:13 am PSTDear oh dear. You have taken the game far too seriously. This is not a political arena, or soap box. It is a discussion board where Flippers come to get ideas, get help. If this game offends you, delete it and then write a missive to the developers. Why I sympathise with your thoughts, I am inclined to say, "It is what it is". Like it or do not. What you are looking for, you will not find here. To get your point across, you should contact them direct. Just because thousands of people think like this, it doesn't make it right. Also, where is the workshop with food and art supplies in House Flipper? I can't find any of it in the store.

No, it makes it more realistic and indeed reflective on part of modern society, just not the part you like...there are many in workshop, I myself have some art and food, along with a few other modders, you just have to search for them. Try art in the search bar, then paint, canvass, steak, chicken, food, and whatnot..workshop is a tab called workshop on the Steam game page.

tatiana replied to Can the devs please review sexism in the game January 11, 2022 @ 8:57:32 am PSTI disagree with the examples you give:
1. The buyer who hates children's stuff is a single woman. Those female buyers who have husbands don't make any anti-child statements at all, quite the contrary. Of course, her views are a bit extreme, but how else are you going to give her personality with a few lines of text? The same applies to the male buyers as well.
2. If you read some of the emails in the base game or the Garden DLC, it's all "I'm so looking forward to becoming a father" and "I don't want my sweetie to burn herself on nettles."
3. The only male-oriented decoration in the store I encounter regularly is the "Chill out in your man-cave" poster. I never bother buying trophies and other small items, so I never even noticed them. Of course there is also a picture of a "muscle car", some gym equipment, guitars and a billiards table, but where does it say these are for men only?
4. If anything, the game started out as being too Female-oriented. Thankfully, the number of shades of green and blue paint is now about equal to the number of shades of pink, and there has been no new furniture or curtain additions featuring pink flowers.
5. The only thing that truly disturbs me in House Flipper is that email order in the Apocalypse DLC where a man plans to banish his mother-in-law to a bunker. But you didn't even mention it...

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Jetgirl made some valid points. It has nothing to do with being "political" or on a "soapbox." Video games tend to be very straight, male focused. This includes how those who those who are not straight or male are portrayed in games. Representation matters which is why all need to be represented in games and that includes not continuing stereotypes. The world is made up of all kinds of people and "stereotypes" are rarely, if ever, accurate. You feel represented in the game whether it is by what the buyers are saying or what is in the store. That is great! Really, it is. Not everyone feels that way, though. Now, I love this game. I have 700+ hours into it, so I think that it is pretty clear that I like it. And, I don't think the dev's are purposefully trying to ignore certain people. However, all games can be improved in some way and everyone can be benefited from having their views expanded a bit. Stereotyping can be harmful to people. Maybe not to you, but it can be too others. Reminding game developers of this isn't a bad thing. Again, representation matters to everyone. I'l also say again that this isn't a political or "soapbox" thing. It's a human thing. And, as for not posting "this" on the forums, it was posted under "suggestions" which is the exact spot it should have been posted. I've seen quite a few complaints in the forums about what the buyers say/want, but haven't seen too many complaints about those complaints until now. Jetgirl didn't attack the devs (which she shouldn't have) or the game, but she did remind them that it is not just straight males who play games and that stereotyping isn't good for anyone. Now, there probably isn't much that can be done about what has already been released (which isn't horrible, just could be better), but it is something that they can keep in mind for future DLCs and/or future games.

Of course fantasy reflects reality. Why are there more people of color in the Luxury Flipper expansion? Because the devs looked at their game, realized it didn't reflect reality, and changed it for the better. You're playing a politically correct game now, so maybe you should be deleting your copy. IT IS A GAME! Not real life. Fantasy. It has nothing to do with humanity, gender or race.

Was setup to be specific furniture for the achievements and the furniture to match the buyers it is part of the original House Flippers since then many DLC have been added and with each DLC new items were added to our store,
Example Luxury DLC most of the furniture was added to our store after doing the jobs like this one.

Meshei replied to Can the devs please review sexism in the game January 12, 2022 @ 3:51:04 am PSTYou're having way too many feelings over a simple game. It's not that serious and games don't have to live up to your standards. That is the reason why we have choices and you should have researched each game before buying if you want to request the same to be done in game when it's their vision. As for what the people say why let it bother you half the time I don't pay attention to what they're saying but maybe this isn't the game for you.
