The game ran fine until now, even played today but now it crashes on startup

I have the same issue as well. Literally worked 2 hours ago.

I got it to run by deleting Proton files and using Proton Hotfix. Experimental and 7 did not work.

I just deleted the proton files and started the game, let it do its thing.

i tried that, but it didn't work. only Proton Hotfix got it to actually boot.

Same. I played for a couple of hours last night. Shut down and then it wouldn't launch less than an hour later.

It used to work fine on Proton Experimental.

One thing that's different now is it doesn't even show the new launcher window. It just crashes back to game mode.

Did they change something?

This is horrible. I finally found a game that I'm loving so much and is really drawing me in. I need to get this to work.

For Proton Hotfix, it should be in the same list as the other versions are in the compatibility section of the game's configuration (the gear icon).

As for deleting Proton Files, you should be able to do that by going in the Steam menu -> Storage, then uninstalling them from there like you would a game, though I'm not completely sure. Be sure to back up your save files as I've read that some people have lost theirs when uninstalling proton files.

I'm having the same issues, and hotfix hasn't worked on my side sadly. Not sure why it stopped working for seemingly no reason like that.

Select Proton Hotfix under compatibility and delete Proton Files by clicking the cogwheel, go to Developer and select Delete Proton Files.

Launching the game after this will install the EA things again and the game runs again (it goes 2-3 times to the Steam logo, just let it run for a few min).

So what Proton files are we deleting? I've been running for two weeks via GE-Proton7-37 just fine (aside from taking 3 attempts to get past the useless EA log-in stuff). What files actually need to be deleted?

So deleted my proton files and allowed the game to not force compatibility anymore. It reinstalled the EA stuff and loaded up fine....minus all of yesterdays saved games.....

that happened to me too. i didn't lose much. just like 30 mins and i just redid it. Not a huge deal in my case.

It should just delete all your proton files for the game and when you boot again, it will install the proton version you selected again. As far as i know anyway.
