Achievements Fix (Simple explanation)

This is for ME2 and ME3 on Windows as of February 15th 2023.

1. Make a backup copy of the following file and then delete it (or rename it).

Mass Effect 2:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save\ME2\GamerProfile

Mass Effect 3:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save\ME3\local_profile

2. Launch Mass Effect Legendary Edition from Steam as normal, up to the point where you select between Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3. Log in to the EA app as required to get the launcher to this point. Steam can't be in offline mode.

3. Tab out of the launcher to your desktop and change the EA app to offline mode.

4. Tab back in and launch ME2 or ME3.

5. On the main menu, verify that the achievements are not all marked as already completed (Extras > Achievements).

6. Play the game as normal.

! IMPORTANT !
Changing the EA app to offline mode while on the ME:LE launcher screen must be done each time before ME2 or ME3 is launched. If you forget to do so, you will lock yourself out of achievements again, and the profile file must be deleted again to get it back working.

so basically for all these solutions you have to do it in one session since it deletes your progress? (or am i missing something?)

It only deletes your progress towards an achievement when you delete the profile file. As long as you don't forget to take the EA app into offline mode on the launcher, you can do achievements across sessions.

But I suspect there are some multi-step achievements that will be impossible to complete if you have to delete the profile half-way through a playthrough because you already booted up the game after replacing Origin with EA.

You can make a backup of the profile file after a session if you don't think you'll remember to do this every time you start the game. It's tedious, of course, but it's just what we have to deal with until EA figures out how to not mess up the profile file every time the game connects to EA...

Progress would be reset on multi-step achievements like Lost and Found ("Dispatch 10 probes to retrieve people or resources in Reaper territory"), while story achievements that are completed there and then would unlock as long as you didn't already pass that point in your playthrough with bugged achievements, such as Mobilizer ("Bring a veteran officer aboard").

mkmk, but i shouldve clarified i meant my actual game progress. like would i have to start a new game or can i continue from where i am? i think i tried doing the whole deleting profile file thingy yesterday but all my saves were gone. (i may have done the method incorrectly idk)

also dont worry i still have my saves from yesterday i made backups lol.

Always a good thing to have backups 😅

You can continue playing with your old save, no problem. Though after you finished the game you may be missing some story achievements from parts of the game that you already finished now.

You only need to delete the one profile file inside the folder ME3, not the whole BioWare folder or any of the save files. 👍

Haven't tested it, but just doing the last bit could work. I don't see why it wouldn't.

Just finished an insanity run that I had to use this fix midway thru, and didn't get the appropriate insanity achievement (would've been the 3rd one as I had already gotten the 1 and 2) so I think you'll have to new game it.

I got Long Service just fine, I think Paramour should also be fine but I'm not sure. I didn't romance anyone as I had romanced Thane in me2 and wanted to stay faithful.

Ok. You gonna go for new game to get Insanity 3 or nah? Im thinking about finishing my playthrough normally and then just speedrun through again to get Insanity 3. Shouldnt take that long if you ignore the 2billion side missions i guess.

I have a bunch of achievements I still need to get, so yea gonna go ahead and make a new game for the third one. Not looking forward to it, tbh. Not that good at video games and playing on hard difficulties is tedious as I'm not particularly patient lol.
