What is the beat code I never remember the game having one before? Is it something they announce for us all to get on or is there a way to get one?

It's the usual beta branch in the game settings you can all the time join.

So i've right clicked the app, then gone to game properties but i'm stuck there. I don't see anything mentioning beta to switch to. Could you fill me in on what exactly comes between the properties and accessing the beta branch?

After opening the properties the last tab at the top is called "BETAS", in that tab there's a drop down menu, select beta - Unstable build. That's it, the game will update and you're good to go afterwards.

^^^^ you also need to have the game closed completely when you do this

If it doesn't work, try pressing the up and down arrow. That worked for my friend and I tested it, and it still works. If it still doesn't work I don't know anything more to help you.

Edit: click the options bar and then press the up and down arrow.

you do NOT need a code. Just choose the beta and hit the x in the menu. The game should appear in your download section automatically.

You do actually need a beta code, because checking now there is no option for a beta version to opt into, did this myself before and it has worked but I have recently wiped my laptop and now it's gone.

Beta has been closed for months now. Devs no longer do test updates on the beta branch and just do big updates on the main branch. Even with that, there has never been a need for a beta code.
