Music Box not worth it (and other Cursed Objects)?

Is is just me, or is there no point in using the Music Box? Every time someone uses it early on (as it is totally pointless, along with the much more useful Mirror, once you've found the Ghost Room), one of two things happens:
1. The ghost is far away and we faintly hear it in the distance. The person with the Music Box can't turn it off, so they throw it on the ground, which immediately causes a Cursed Hunt and makes the rest of the game much more difficult.
2. The ghost is right next to the person with the box and immediately kills them before they get a chance to react to the Cursed Hunt, making the game much more difficult for everyone else.

Seriously, every time we get the Music Box, I groan in frustration, take a picture, and throw it in the nearest trash can. There isn't any use for it as the supposed "risk versus reward" trade-off is all risk, no reward. It seems to me that no matter what you do, you're screwed, as you can't turn it off once it starts playing and throwing it away triggers a Cursed Hunt. Even if you are lucky enough to locate the ghost using it (which requires you to be near the ghost room, but not TOO near lest it happen to be on top of you), you're stuck in "Cursed Mode" for the rest of the game.
Ten times out of ten I'd much rather have the Mirror or Ouija Board instead, as the Mirror only takes a 2-second glimpse to see exactly where the ghost is, and asking the Board where the ghost is immediately tells you its general area, and both of these items can be compensated for by taking pills right after their use.

The other Cursed Items are mediocre, but at least you aren't guaranteed to make the game harder by using them (except the Pentagram, but it only ever gets used if the secondary objectives involve a photo of the ghost or escaping a Hunt, otherwise it's about as useful as the Music Box).
I feel like some of the lesser items could use a bit more "umph" for the amount of luck they currently require, as right now I only ever use the Voodoo Doll or Tarot Cards if I absolutely, positively cannot locate the ghost and need to try and make it do something in order to figure out where it is - but then half the time with these items you end up getting something bad or useless instead. The Pentagram is what it is and I can't really think of a way to make it much more useful, other than maybe having the room where the Pentagram is located immediately become the Ghost Room after you've survived the Hunt - that would at least give it some purpose earlier in the game.

Anyway, in short - the Music Box is basically a death trap, the Mirror and especially the Ouija Board are far superior to the other items, the Voodoo Doll and Tarot Cards are mostly useless without a fair bit of luck, and the Pentagram is useless for most of the game up until you need to complete potential secondary objectives.
