I found some in the police department, as well as some ammo and small arms in residential houses. Are there any places near that are stacked with guns & armor?

It's impossible to say for sure. Every game is random and different. The best thing is to thing of the most likely places you would find guns and check there.

Try to find survivor homes (boarded up homes) as they are also very likely to have weapons.

From what I recall spending more than a couple dozen hours in Riverside, the only place where guns and ammo are stacked up in one place is the Police station behind the locked door, accessible by breaking the door with a sledgehammer.

Don't forget to search cars. Often times, police cars will have guns and ammo in their trunks and glove boxes.

If what you're asking is for "big" guns, from what I've seen, you'll want mods for that. Guns in this game is pretty much pistols and shot guns.

Oh yeah, this too. Boarded up houses have higher chance of weapons.

Lure zombies inside of any building and kill them inside. There is a chance they will drop the building key which you can use to unlock any door inside. Including the reinforced doors.

Riverside is a pretty secluded small town. It's great for new players since not many zombies there, but consequently not much loot either. If you are looking for guns and ammo specifically, you'll have to take a road trip out of Riverside for sure.

In West Point, the gun store, the police station and the boarded up office building are all prime locations for firearms and related stuff. The best place on the map I think is still the military camp south of Louisville.
