Global and Local grids. Do they actually work?

I am getting no difference to global and local grid snapping. No matter the option objects are ALWAYS misaligned depending on where my mouse is when spawned. Is there actually a way to fix this?

Global/Local snapping only applies to snapped transformations (e.g., moving or rotating). This does not have an effect on the orientation of objects when first spawned. You should rotate newly-spawned objects to your preferred orientation.

Ah ok, is there a way to get objects to align to the same XYZ grid?

Move/rotate them with the snap tool (hold Ctrl when performing the transformation). Or copy the coordinates of one object and paste them onto another (iirc, this is Ctrl+B and Ctrl+N by default).
