What is the point of this game?

I bought this recently and have played an hour so far, I am not sure what I think of it but I am stuck on what to do. Is the game literally just drop things into the world and see what happens?

That's the core of it yes, but you can make a few goals.

I only have 6 hours in the game so far so I don't know a lot, but something I ended up doing was "training" one of the kingdoms to be more resilient by healing them and feeding them managable threats to level them up.

After some time, I ended up with this super powerful military squad of humans that the game systems had naturally selected the "immunity" trait for.

The immunity trait popping up was a complete accident, it's because I was using mushroom zombies to make them fight, so the only survivors were ones with the immunity trait.

I found this really interesting so I made a bottleneck in some mountains that separated the hordes of mushroom people from the last kingdom on the planet, this squad of about 20 immune super soldiers held off the unstoppable mushroom people for a few hours while this kingdom of about 200 people actually hung onto existence with a steady population.

I dunno if you have experienced a mushroom apocalypse yet, but if you have, you will understand how impressive it was for a kingdom to actually fight it off and survive for ages.
