A | MVP Black | vs. | X-Team | 2:0
A | X-Team | vs. | Renovatio l | 2:0 |
Group A was a tale of two regions: MVP Black from Korea, and X-Team from China. In the first round of games, MVP Black squared off against South East Asia’s Renovatio I. Though they managed to take an early lead in in the first game, it was clear that Renovatio I were ill-equipped to handle the polished powerhouse from Korea and ultimately fell to MVP Black 2-0.
Similarly, X-Team took on Australia’s Negative Synergy in a dominating fashion. While individually strong, Negative Synergy showed a lack of draft knowledge that X-Team easily exploited, and with a quirky double-tank Abathur composition followed by Tychus, X-Team took the series with a clean sweep.
In the Lower Bracket, Renovatio I and Negative Synergy faced off to move on to the Losers’ Finals. Though Negative Synergy took the first game with a strong double-Warrior composition, their opponents’ aggression ultimately proved too much to handle and Renovatio I moved on to the Losers’ Finals with a 2-1 victory in hand.
In the Winners’ Finals, MVP Black and X-Team finally faced off. There was no doubting the strength of the Chinese team but, like Renovatio I, X-Team buckled under pressure. MVP Black progressed to Group Stage 2 with a 2-0 win.
Knocked down to the Losers’ Finals, X-Team faced their Korean-scorned counterpart Renovatio I. X-Team might have been knocked down but they weren’t completely out of the fight, and they proceeded to take games one and two in quick succession, moving on to Group Stage 2 alongside MVP Black!

B | Please Buff Arthas | vs. | Big Gods | 2:1
B | MmYinsanity | vs. | Gale Force Esports | 2:0
B | Please Buff Arthas | vs. | Gale Force Esports | 2:0 |
After the first set of matches in Group A, it was clear that all four regions represented in this group came here to win. Though they showed signs of life, Taiwan’s Please Buff Arthas were quickly 2-0’ed by the impressive decision-making of Europe’s mYinsanity.
The second match pitted North America’s Gale Force Esports against Latin America’s Big Gods. Both teams danced around one another, waiting for their opponents to make a mistake, but it was ultimately Gale Force Esports who moved on to the Winners’ Finals with mYinsanity.
Though they had shown life on Day 1, Big Gods were no match for the brutality of Please Buff Arthas in the Lower Bracket, and swiftly fell 2-0. Please Buff Arthas progressed to the Losers’ Finals.
Widely considered one of the top contenders for the Summer Global Championship crown, mYinsanity showed a lack of strong decision-making against an impressive performance from Gale Force Esports. They were able to pull back Game 1 by the skin of their teeth and, riding the momentum, moved on to Group Stage 2 and knocked Gale Force Esports down to the Losers’ Finals with a 2-0 victory.
Based on their performance against mYinsanity, Gale Force Esports were widely considered the team that would come out of Group Stage 1 in second seed. Their eyes may have been on the global prize, but Please Buff Arthas’ sights were set firmly on their opponents. Despite being known for their ability to snowball small leads and take advantage of the slightest missteps, Please Buff Arthas came into this series as the clear underdog. Regardless, they proved that their team and Taiwan as a region deserve to be on the global stage. Gale Force Esports relied heavily on their shot-calling and hyper carries, and proved how strong that synergy could be in the first game. In an incredible turn of events, Please Buff Arthas managed to take the second game and, with a Hail Mary play to rush down their opponents’ core in the decider, Game Force Esports’ hesitation cost them dearly and secured Please Buff Arthas a ticket to Group Stage 2!
Group Stage 2 will see Taiwan, China, North America, and Korea clash in Group A while Europe’s two representatives will fight amongst themselves alongside China and Korea in Group B.
The action picks up again on June 18 and, by the end of the day on June 20, we will have a Summer Global Champion. The first match-ups in each group will be Team Naventic vs. MVP Black; eStar Gaming vs. Please Buff Arthas; Team Dignitas vs. mYinsanity; and Tempest vs. X-Team!
