There are not enough words to do justice to the Summer Global Championship and the level of play that was on display during its latter stages. The world’s best Heroes of the Storm teams put on a show with incredible drafts, beautiful mechanics, and superb team synergies until only one of them remained—congratulations to Tempest from Korea! For a recap of the Championship, check out this earlier article.

Following this epic event, multiple changes continue to come to the Nexus in the form of bug fixes and balance changes for some of our favorite Heroes. Now that the Summer Global Champions have been crowned, we’ve also got the Fall Global Circuit to look forward to—the first matches will be played next month as teams take their first steps on the road to BlizzCon.

Games to Watch

Team Dignitas	vs.	X-Team		Game two between these powerhouse teams from Europe and China highlighted the importance of strong mechanics. The Sylvanas play from X-Team’s Yaoyao alone makes this match a good watch.
mYinsanity	vs.	MVP Black		In the Semifinals, MVP Black showed their first signs of weakness. On Infernal Shrines, mYinsanity showed Korea the power of Europe through a solid draft and strong play around objective points.

Literally every game in the Grand Finals of the Summer Global Championship is worth watching. The sheer skill and synergy of the top two teams in the world is a sight to behold. This best-of-five back-and-forth battle for the crown was unbelievable from start to finish.

MVP Black	vs.	Tempest		Game one brought the teams to Battlefield of Eternity. The incredible play of Merryday on Lt. Morales served MVP Black well, but also made him a target for Tempest’s aggression.
MVP Black	vs.	Tempest		Game two on Infernal Shrines pitted Kerrigan against E.T.C. in a tense match-up that ended with with the casters declaring Tempest’s Dami the best player in the world.
MVP Black	vs.	Tempest		Game three marked the Championship Bracket debut of Tracer as the teams headed to Cursed Hollow. MVP Black’s KyoCha put in an incredible performance as the Overwatch Agent, living up to the hype that permeated the crowd when she was drafted.
MVP Black	vs.	Tempest		Game four on Dragon Shire looked relatively comfortable for MVP Black as they capped four of the first five Dragon Knights.Tempest weren’t ready to give up on their Championship dream though and, thanks in part to Lockdown’s fantastic play on Li-Ming, fans were treated to a thrilling finish.
MVP Black	vs.	Tempest		The fifth and final game was played on Towers of Doom, which isn’t typically a favored battleground in the Korean scene. Nevertheless, it provided the perfect backdrop for both teams to pull out all the stops in back-and-forth brawls and for Tempest’s Dami to teach a Greymane master class.

The Fall Global Circuit Takes Form!

Though the tentative schedule for the Fall Championship was released at the start of the month, we’re starting to get more details on when each Regional Qualifier will begin, the first being for Europe’s Fall Regional 1, which will be held at DreamHack Valencia! From July 14-15, Europe’s top eight teams will compete for the first seed into the Fall Global Championship at BlizzCon. Both Team Dignitas and mYinsanity have been invited to the Regional already, so they will not be participating in the group stages. The Qualifiers will be cast and streamed by Khaldor!

Some TLC for Our Favorite Heroes!

This week’s game update incorporated some changes to Rehgar, Chromie and Kael’thas. Rehgar’s prominence in the global scene speaks to the strength of the wolfy Support, and developers agree with the community that he should be more of an aggressive support with a strong bite to back up his bark. His damage potential was increased while his healing scaled back slightly to offset the changes.

Similarly, Kael’thas has shown clear regional dominance across the board due to his crowd control and burst capabilities. The damage changes on his Living Bomb will hopefully curb his burst potential enough to make him feel like more of an AoE-centred Assassin. Developers did warn that there will likely be more changes incoming for Kael’thas.

Chromie, on the other hand, just needed a bit more help surviving. By tweaking the numbers on her Time Trap, the hope is that her strategic positioning will become even more impactful and rewarding for those playing our time-travelling dragon friend.

There are also more changes down the road for Tyrael, so be on the look-out for our Archangel of Justice to fall back into favor in the Nexus soon!
