Overview
Unveiling the Gold Club World Championship in Beijing
The 2016 Heroes of the Storm Gold Club World Championship, or “GCWC”, is a premier international invitational tournament jointly hosted by NetEase and Blizzard Entertainment. Between November 11 and December 3, battles will be waged by the top Heroes of the Storm teams from around the world as they vie for the coveted GCWC title and a share of the US$300,000 prize pool. The final stages of the tournament will be played at the Water Cube—also known as the National Aquatics Center—an impressive Beijing landmark originally built for the 2008 Olympics.
Clash of the Titans: The Best Heroes Teams on the Planet Meet in China
Eight of the world's top Heroes teams will be invited to battle it out inside the Water Cube for their slice of the prize pool; here’s how these invitees will be determined:
- 2016 BlizzCon Champions (1 team)
- HGC Fall Regional Champions of Europe, North America, and Korea (3 teams)
- CN Gold Heroes League Summer Champions and Runners-up (2 teams)
- GCWC Global Wildcard winners (1 team)
- GCWC China Regional Wildcard winners (1 team)
Note: If the BlizzCon champions happen to be one of the HGC Regional winners, then that Regional’s runners-up will become eligible.
To the Victors go the Spoils
To mark a perfect ending for 2016 Heroes international competitions, the eight teams competing at the GCWC will share a hefty prize pool of US$300,000. Check out the image below for an exact breakdown of the prize pool.
A Call for Glory and Hope
Teams around the globe have already heeded the call and are redoubling their efforts in the hope of carving out a spot for themselves in the GCWC. The winners of the HGC Fall Championship in Korea will be crowned on October 1, and we'll find out which team wins the Fall Global Championship at BlizzCon on November 5. More information on the Global Wildcard and China Regional Wildcard round will be released soon, so be sure to stay tuned for more updates regarding the GCWC.
